Ann Meredith

As a disabled Lesbian Queer Playwright, it has always been my personal creative and professional goal as well as my moral and ethical responsibility to write stories that asks and discusses the important questions by giving a compassionate and realistic face and voice to people and cultures who have been persecuted, injured, discriminated against, marginalized, over-looked and, therefore, underserved. If they don’t hear us, if we do not give ourselves and our culture a voice then they don’t have to pay attention to us let alone provide us our needs.

As a multiple Survivor, giving myself a voice has been an enormous challenge my entire life and career, 77 and a half years. It was much easier for me to help others and give others a chance to tell their stories in their own voices…It took me years and a great deal of mental, physical, emotional and psychological pain…it still does… to give myself a voice and now there is no going back. All aspects and versions of Anorexia has to be….must be… over.

Our Voice …Our Words …My Voice …My words are my Power. I’m not alone any more.

MORE ABOUT ME
I keep doing Theater because it's Real...it's concrete and expansive at the same time. Theater is authentic, human, enlightening, unsettling and comforting. Theater is Truth...it's Action in Motion, in Words and in Heart. Theater changes people's lives. Theater gives a realistic and compassionate face and voice to people and cultures that have been injured, persecuted, marginalized and therefor underserved. Theater gives me permission to speak my Truth. Doing Theater gives me permission to be myself and create the words and designs and performances that are cutting edge, inspirational and that push the envelope. Theater is the biggest gift in my life and career.
