Kia T. Barbee

(Updated 1/13/26) Kia is an award winning storyteller and creative producer. Her play Roommates received a best actress award (Fresh Fruit Festival) and was nominated for a Susan Blackburn award. Her latest play, Snobs vs The Underdogs was a semi-finalist for development with Premiere Stages (NJ) and was featured in Naked Angel’s Theater First Monday reading series. As a producer and creative consultant, she has worked with award winning filmmakers and writers. She founded and produced ScriptRead, an interactive themed stage reading series to highlight other underrepresented writers. She is currently She is a member of the WGAE and Dramatist Guild.

MORE ABOUT ME
What do you want artistic directors to know: I have been writing stories since the age of five and enjoy creating flawed character driven inclusive stories exploring acceptance of self with humor. What's one thing nobody knows about you that you'd like them to know: I love animals and wanted to become a veterinarian. My favorite animals are cats (big and small) and wolves.

WHAT I'M WORKING ON
I'm currently developing and writing a psychological dramady play inspired by The Odd Couple and a time travel limited series.
