Ellen Abrams

Eleanor and Alice was produced by off-Broadway theatre Urban Stages in the fall of 2022 and the spring of 2023 and has been published by Smith & Kraus. Her full-length play, Intentions, was a semi-finalist at the O'Neill National Playwrights Conference. Her produced short plays include: Relations, Mediation or the Bonapartes Call It Quits; her verse play On the Greene at Runnymede: A Magna Carta Rap in the Year of Our Lord 1215, Line, Please, Lizzie Borden Gets Engaged, Hamlet Investigations, Inc., Metonym, or the Almost Completely False Story Behind the Creation of Roget’s Thesaurus, Spark of Life, Closing Time, and others have been produced live or on audio. Lizzie Borden Gets Engaged and Liars Anonymous were part of Barrington Stage’s 10x10 Festival. Lizzie Borden Gets Engaged and Hamlet Investigations, Inc. have both been published by Smith and Kraus, and her full-length play Giving was published by Next Stage Press. Her short play Bernie and Carlo Play Canasta received an Honorable Mention from Broadway On-Demand’s first video competition. Her play for high school students, Take a Seat, has been published by Big Dog Publishing. She is a member of the Dramatists Guild and the Actors Studio Playwrights and Directors Unit.

MORE ABOUT ME:
The play that changed my life was CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF at the late and justly lamented American Shakespeare Festival at the Stratford Theatre in Connecticut, whereafter I became a huge Tennessee Williams fan. Years after reading many of Williams' plays, I gradually began to realize that playwriting was my calling.

WHAT I'M WORKING ON:
I am currently working on a full-length play about the British newspaperwoman who broke the Dreyfus case.
